Sports Academy transforms into Mamba Sports Academy

Coming into Sports Academy as Creative Director, I was given a few goals to prepare the company to attract an investor, partners and other venture capital options to carry them into the next phase of growth. My main goals was to build the branding.This included the brand voice, style guidelines and unifying all messaging; To develop new campaign strategies and creative platforms based on current research results as well as tweak and mold them in real time. To craft a strategy for marketing and promoting the elite level medical and recovery resources in the facility. Provide learning tools, direction and mentorship to the very junior staff I was leading. Work with the Foundation and each sports depart to help highlight opportunities both in and out of the community where they could foster growth. After months of work I could not have been happier when Kobe Bryant walked in and wanted in on the action.

Sports Performance Digital Business Cards

In a go-green digital age, I wanted to develop a solution to standard flyer pollution. In sports and event marketing we hand out so many flyers that just seem to make it into the landfills without much consumer retention. This is even more of a problem when our trainer would go on set too. They need a way to promote while training their star clients. The digital business card worked wonderfully. First, when someone shows interest, you have an engaging overview that is under 60 seconds. Secondly, to deliver it you can casually gatherer their information (the phone number to text it to). Finally, it promotes, easy direct and personal follow ups, not to mention no waste.


NFL COMBINE

The NFL Scouting Combine is a week-long showcase occurring every February at Lucas Oil Stadium (and formerly at the RCA Dome until 2008) in Indianapolis, where college football players perform physical and mental tests in front of National Football League coaches, general managers, and scouts. The training leading to and the NFL Combine is one of Sports Academy’s (now Mamba Sports Academy) bigger training programs. They pride themselves on caring for the whole athlete. Mind, body and recovery, to achieve peak performance and strive to break past all personal goals. While word of mouth is great, after the success from the prior years, they need to compete with their competitors by showing off their assets. The best way to do this was through collateral highlighting their methods to send to the players, agents, and the families they were in talks with. The video and deck proved to be very successful.

“American adults spend more than 11 hours per day watching, reading, listening to or simply interacting with media, according to a new study by market-research group Nielsen.” It is remarkable that eleven out of an average eighteen hours we are awake we spend on our devices consuming data. Our attention spans are decreasing so short form video promos seem to be a quick and engaging way to build our social audience and attract consumers. This short form content helps in completing successful production at a faster rate, advances the skills of the team and increases sales. With a small group of very junior videographers and editors the best way to create successful content and help them grow their skills is to give them short tangible goals that pushed their creativity. I would give them a target audience, video theme or subject, length and style guide. Then have them research competitors and provide storyboards for approval followed by filming and editing. Having a good flow with the team fostered creativity and growth. Eventually they were able to present the entire video idea to final cut themselves with only checking in along the way.
